About California Zoroastrian Center
The California Zoroastrian Center (CZC) is a religious and cultural nonprofit organization established in 1979 to preserve and promote the Zoroastrian faith, Persian cultural heritage, and community life throughout Southern California.
From its earliest gatherings in private homes to the inauguration of the Rustam Guiv Dar-e Mehr in Westminster, CZC has developed into a significant center serving Zoroastrians across a region extending from the San Fernando Valley to San Diego. The Center remains dedicated to the foundational principles of Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds.
Our History
In May 1979, six Iranian Zoroastrian women convened with the purpose of establishing a means to preserve and advance their religious and cultural traditions in the United States. Following initial affiliations with existing organizations, the group was formally registered as a nonprofit corporation in 1980. Philanthropist Rustam Guiv provided essential support by securing the first premises in Anaheim.
As membership and activities expanded, the need for a permanent facility became evident. With substantial funding from the Rustam Guiv Foundation and the contributions of numerous community members, the present Center was constructed on Hazard Avenue in Westminster. The Rustam Guiv Dar-e Mehr was inaugurated on March 25, 1987. The facility comprises a main hall, prayer room (Atash Kadeh), classrooms, kitchen, library, and a subsequent youth wing.
Today, CZC stands as one of the largest and most active Zoroastrian centers outside Iran, India, and Pakistan, continuing to serve as a place of worship, education, cultural observance, and communal gathering.
Mission
The California Zoroastrian Center exists to uphold the teachings of Zarathushtra, to support the welfare and advancement of the Zoroastrian community, and to make the living tradition of the faith accessible to all who seek it.
In accordance with the principles of equality, truthfulness, free will, and collaborative effort inherent in Zarathushtra’s teachings, the Center endeavors to foster a vibrant and inclusive community while encouraging successive generations to sustain the religion and its cultural heritage.
